The Client, the Royal United Services Institute, is an independent British defence and security think tank. This unique institution was founded in 1831 by the Duke of Wellington. Having recently acquired the freehold of their headquarters at Whitehall, the Institute is now in a position to refurbish and extend its vital research base and enable its headquarters to operate effectively in the twenty-first century, in their original location.

Planning Approval was recently granted for the scheme designed for the refurbishment of the Grade II* Listed Building. This provides additional office accommodation, along with a proposal to introduce a contemporary glazed dome to the existing rear bow. The scheme demonstrates a series of sensitive architectural interventions that aim to modernise the building so it continues to meet the users requirements.
